Open Question: How can I afford new hearing aids?1 March 2010, 10:32 amI've been wearing the brown over the ear digital hearing aids for 9 years now. My family couldn't afford new hearing aids then and they certainly cannot afford it now. The last time we went to the audiologist, he only offered a 6 month credit card payment plan that we cannot afford, maybe if it was a year or more payment plan we could but not 6 months.
But now we really have no choice, my mother is the only one with a stable job (I recently lost my job), and step-dad has a temporary job. It's been 9 years since I last gotten new aids, and it shows in my hearing. Somebody is sitting right next to me, talking to me face to face and yet I hear them as if they were 15 feet away or more. On my last job interviews, nobody wanted to hire me because I could barely hear their interview questions and they got fed up repeating themselves.
I've tried signing up for vocational rehabilitation but I need my parents help, because I don't know how to go about that process on my own.
P.S. I'm 22 if that's any indication and according to my mother's company's policy I'm no longer eligible for any health insurance to help pay.
